A note from the CMCS director
Vision: To Foster Catholic Men's Spirituality in Chicago Southland

Dear CMCS Men and Friends,

Pope Leo XIV asked Catholics to observe Aug. 22 as a day of prayer and fasting for peace and justice, more information here from Catholic news service.

And here is the text from his general audience, where he also shared a compelling message about forgiveness:

Appeal of the Holy Father

Next Friday, 22 August, we will celebrate the memorial of Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mary is the Mother of believers here on earth, and is also invoked as Queen of Peace, while our earth continues to be wounded by wars in the Holy Land, in Ukraine, and in many other regions of the world.

I invite all the faithful to devote the day of 22 August to fasting and prayer, imploring the Lord to grant us peace and justice, and to dry the tears of those who suffer as a result of the ongoing armed conflicts. Mary, Queen of Peace, intercede so that peoples may find the path to peace.

SUNRISE PRAYER SERVICE 2025

The Black Catholic Deacons of Chicago are hosting the Annual Sunrise Prayer Service on Saturday, Aug. 23. Everyone is invited to join at 6:30 a.m. at Oakwood Beach (41st Street and Lakeshore Drive, Chicago) to pray for peace in our hearts, schools, families and streets. Note: In the event of heavy rain, the prayer service will be moved to Our Lady of Africa Church. More information.
